Suez Canal Toll Rates To Increase From January

Suez Canal Toll Rates To Increase From January

Suez Canal transit tolls will increase from January 2023 by 15% for all types of vessels, with the exclusion of dry bulk ships and cruise ships, which will incur a 10% increase.

According to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) the rise in toll rates is in response to changed market conditions such as the significant increase in average freight rates for various types of vessels (as well the forecasted continued rise for these rates next year), increased energy prices which has seen an increase in the savings ships achieve by transiting through the Suez Canal compared to other alternative routes, as well as global inflation and its impact on the SCA’s operational and navigational costs.
