26 Oct New Zealand (NZ) Shipping Delays Skyrocket
A combination of several factors such as delayed shipments from China and global port congestion has seen an increase in shipping delays to New Zealand, as carriers prioritise more profitable routes.
Recent data indicates shipment delays from China to New Zealand increased by 144% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter in 2021, and by 372% compared to that of 2020.
These delays are hitting New Zealand particularly hard, especially when compared to their Tasman neighbour Australia, with NZ importers and exporters waiting weeks longer for their shipments due to the fewer ports available for shippers to re-route to when required
