Industrial Action Continues At DP World

Industrial action continues to impact DP World Brisbane terminal as the Electrical Trades Union strikes for a better pay deal, with the goal of receiving the same pay increases recently negotiated by the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA).

Whilst DP World is adamant there is no impact, according to the Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA), the industrial action is causing disruptions such as landside delays and extended turnaround times of up to 5 hours for trucks.

In addition, there has also been detrimental impact on the maintenance and reliability of the Automatic Stacking Cranes (ASCs) used to load / unload trucks, with over 150 instances of ASC breakdowns and unavailability throughout January and February.

These delays are costing container transport operators more than 20% extra in operating costs which include truck waiting times, additional container handling and staging and added labour costs.
