Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSM) Season 2022/23

Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSM) Season 2022/23

The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF) have updated their guidelines & instructions covering mandatory pre-shipment fumigation requirements to protect against BMSB over the 2022/2023 high risk season.

These measures will come into effect on 1st September 2022 (date of shipment from origin port) until 30th April 2023 and cover all imports to Australia.

BMSB seasonal measures will apply to targeted goods manufactured in or shipped from target risk countries, and to vessels that berth, load, or transship from target risk countries within the same period.

The shipped-on board date, as indicated on the Ocean Bill of lading, is the date used to determine when goods have been shipped. “Gate in” dates and times will not be accepted to determine when goods are shipped.

Please click on the following link for further information on BMSB seasonal measures including a complete list of the 38 target risk countries (including emerging risk countries China and UK), the 23 tariff classifications categorised as target high-risk goods and the 9 categorised as target risk goods, as well as the vessel seasonal pest scheme, 3 approved treatment methods for BMSB and more: https://bit.ly/3plEdos

We would encourage all our clients moving ‘target high risk’ goods to familiarise themselves with the DAFF guidelines, and to ensure their suppliers comply with any offshore mandatory treatment conditions before the September 1st deadline.
