Australian Wine To Flow More Freely Into Thailand

Australian Wine To Flow More Freely Into Thailand

Over the past few years, approximately 3600 different Australian wines have entered the Thai market, all of which have had to undergo onerous testing for a wide range of substances.

However the Federal Government has recently announced a simpler process for Australian wine producers exporting into Thailand. They can now use the simpler Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Model Wine Certificate, which eliminates onerous testing and analysis requirements.

Developed by Thai and Australian officials, with assistance from Wine Australia and the Australian Wine Research Institute, this new process will lessen the administrative burden of arranging test samples to be shipped overseas, reduce the time to market by up to 3 months, reduce barriers for Thai importers and deliver an estimated $1.2 million cost savings to exporters in the next three years.

As Thailand is a significant and growing market for Australian wine, with exports more than tripling in value over the past three years to nearly $58 million, this is an ideal step forward that helps to expand the market and fulfill growing demand for Australian wine whilst simultaneously helping to offset the current domestic oversupply and diversify our export opportunities.
