World Container Index Update: February 2026

World Container Index Update: February 2026

The latest Drewry World Container Index (WCI) Index decreased 1% to $1,933 per 40ft container this week. This was primarily due to a decline in rates on the Transpacific and Asia-Europe trade routes.

The following trade routes experienced decreases: Shanghai-Rotterdam (-1%), Shanghai-Genoa (-3%), Shanghai-Los Angeles (-1%) and Shanghai-New York (-1%).

Conversely the following trade routes experienced increases: Rotterdam-Shanghai (2%), New York-Rotterdam (2%) and Rotterdam-New York (1%).

Meanwhile, Los Angeles-Shanghai (-4%) remained stable.

With shipping organisations announcing 57 blank sailings for the Trans-Pacific trade routes over the coming weeks, it is anticipated that spot rates will decline, and that weaker markets will further amplify these decreases.
