
27 May World Container Index Update
The latest Drewry World Container Index (WCI) Index increased 8% to US$2233 per 40-foot container this week. The average composite index for the year to date is US$2746 per 40 ft container, which is US$151 lower than the 10-year average rate of US$2896.
The following trade routes experienced increases: Shanghai-New York (19%), Shanghai-Los Angeles (16%) and New York-Rotterdam (1%).
Conversely, the following trade routes experienced decreases: Shanghai-Rotterdam (-1%), Rotterdam-New York (-1%) and Shanghai-Genoa (-1%).
Meanwhile, rates from Rotterdam-Shanghai and Los Angeles-Shanghai remained stable.
It is anticipated that rates will increase in the coming weeks.
