Industry Priority Lists For Re-Elected Labor Government

With the recent election outcome in Australia, various industry groups have called for a focus on decarbonisation, industrial relations and data security from the re-elected Albanese government.

Issues identified as imperative include the need for ministerial stability in the transport, infrastructure and trade portfolio, visa certainty in the offshore sector, the promotion and facilitation of international maritime trade, as well the undertaking of genuine industrial relations reform, coupled with international benchmarking of productivity on the waterfront.

With regards to the supply chain sector, the need to ensure freight policy remains front and centre in the Government’s economic and productivity agenda is vital given the increasing pressure from global disruptions, domestic infrastructure constraints and the persistent workforce shortages faced.

Furthermore, the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) has listed the following priorities for the Albanese government:

  • Resolving critical infrastructure bottlenecks
  • Accelerated decarbonisation of the freight task
  • Embedding freight in land use and planning systems
  • Regulatory harmonisation across jurisdictions to reduce compliance costs, improve efficiency, and support technology adoption
  • Modernising workforce policy.
