Report Delivers Blueprint To Grow NSW Freight Sector By Billions

The NSW Government has released a freight reform roadmap expected to create 235,000 jobs and boost the economy by $131.5 billion by 2061.

The report, Delivering Freight Policy Reform in NSW, outlines short, medium and long-term actions to better integrate freight into the transport networks with initiatives such as further work into barriers and opportunities for moving more freight at night, a recruitment campaign to address skill and workforce shortages in critical roles such as truck drivers, train drivers and seafarers and more.

The current value of freight to the state’s economy is $74 billion and it employs 330,000 people. Under the roadmap, that figure is expected to grow significantly, with an average increase in gross value added of $1.6 billion annually through to 2061 and the scope to employ 500,000+ people by 2061.
