Pilbara Ports has released a strategic ‘Pilbara Clean Fuel Bunkering Hub’ roadmap to establish Australia’s first clean marine fuel bunkering hub, positioning the region as a global leader in low-carbon shipping.
The roadmap outlines a vision to supply bulk carriers with alternative fuels like ammonia, which could slash shipping emissions by up to 94%, with this project forming part of the state’s broader 2050 net-zero emissions target.
As Pilbara Ports operates 3 key gateways for Australia’s resources and energy exports, with more than 7,700 vessels visiting throughout 2023/24, delivering this initiative will materially assist in the reduction of global shipping emissions while simultaneously delivering economic and industrial opportunities for Western Australia
