New Wangaratta Station Precinct Opens In Victoria

Wangaratta Station precinct is the latest enhancement delivered as part of the Inland Rail project which aims to provide the infrastructure required to run double-stacked freight trains from Victoria up to Parkes, NSW by 2027.

An upgraded railway station, Wangaratta marks a significant step forward in the push towards sustainable freight transport across Australia as it is forms part of the Inland Rail corridor that will eventually connect Melbourne and Brisbane in under 24 hours using double-stacked freight trains. This corridor is projected to carry 70% of domestic use goods and enable food to be transported from growers to suppliers at speed.

In addition, this Inland Rail initiative is designed to reduce road freight, therefore easing pressure on the road network as well as cutting freight-related emissions by up to 75 per cent.
