Congress Seeks Reauthorisation Of FMC

A bill reauthorising the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) for another three years has been introduced in the House of Representatives.

This legislation proposes adding more outside expertise to the agency for help on ocean carriers and ports and allows for a complaint process covering freight indices. It also outlines funding for the FMC through the next three fiscal years and includes enhancements to the Ocean Shipping Reform Act 2022 (OSRA-22) such as a 13-member national port advisory committee, a new ocean carrier advisory committee and new regulations for freight index providers amongst other suggestions.
