Australia Re-Elected To IMO Council

Australia has been re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council for a two-year period which concludes at the end of 2027. A founding member of the IMO Council, Australia is currently the sole representative from the South Pacific region.

To date, Australia has contributed prominently towards regional cooperation to improve ship safety, maritime incident response and communications and information services to support Pacific and Indian Ocean neighbours.

In its re-elected role, Australian agencies will continue working on improving global maritime safety, environmental protection and innovation as well as helping to shape modern, future-focused maritime standards that will benefit all member states.
