Customs Border Protection Moves To Electronic Refunds

Customs Border Protection Moves To Electronic Refunds

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have announced that as of February they will move to electronic refunds which will be issued directly into designated bank accounts using Automated Clearing House (ACH) electronic transfers. Cheque refunds will no longer be available.

The move to electronic refunds will enable streamlined payment processing, reduce administrative costs and improve security, as electronic transfers are faster, more traceable, and eliminate various risks associated with paper cheques.

As a result, all importers must use the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) portal to set up the ACH refund account. Instructions on how to create the account can be found here.
