16 Dec Global Wine Production Increases 3% In 2025
This year has seen an increase in global wine production, with an output of 232 million hectolitres. Whilst this year has seen a rise, the volume of output remains below average for the 3rd consecutive year, as vineyards continue to grapple with unpredictable weather conditions, according to the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
Last year saw global wine production hit its lowest level since 1961 – after adverse weather conditions impacted vineyards across continents. This marked a 2% drop from the already historically low 2023, and a 14% decline compared to the last 10-year average.
Across the northern hemisphere, France recorded its smallest harvest since 1957, Spain’s output dropped to a 30-year low whilst Italy’s production rose by 8% and the USA’s output increased by 3%. Down in the southern hemisphere, production increased by 7%, with this growth led by South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil.
This limited growth in global wine production could help balance inventories, as demand in mature markets remains weak, consumption in China continues to drop and global trade faces ongoing uncertainty.
