24 Nov USA Removes Import Tariffs On Beef
One of Australia’s largest exports to the US, beef, is among hundreds of food products now exempt from the 10% reciprocal tariffs imposed earlier this year by President Trump.
This tariff exemption, signed by Executive Order on the 14th of November, provides ample opportunity for Australian exporters to benefit from the high level of US demand for Australian beef as imports will be cheaper. According to Meat and Livestock Australia, 370,357 tonnes of beef has been exported to the US so far this year, which is 17% more than the first 10 months of 2024.
This exemption also applies to New Zealand, Argentina and Uruguay, whilst Brazil’s tariff remains high at 40%. This higher tariff rate has the potential to drive stronger demand for Australian beef due to its more competitive pricing.
This tariff reversal also applies to a wide range of other food products, including but not limited to avocados, bananas, cocoa, oranges and tomatoes, as well as beef from New Zealand.
