Chinese Container Companies Committed To US Market

Cosco Shipping Container Lines and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) have both confirmed their commitment to the continuation of reliable and stable services to the USA before the impending commencement of the port service fees.

These fees, as detailed in our previous newsletter, are to be charged on maritime transport services provided by Chinese operators and shipowners, as well as operators using Chinese-built vessels, effective 14 October 2025.

Despite the operational challenges and financial burden imposed by the fees, these companies are confident in their abilities to continue servicing the USA market as well as maintain competitive rates.

Since the fees were announced in April, shipping container companies have reshuffled services, shifting vulnerable tonnage out of U.S. rotations and restructuring Trans-Pacific services with some reducing Chinese-built vessel (CBV) capacity from U.S.-bound services without reducing overall service capacity in an attempt to balance compliance with political and economic factors while maintaining service and business stability.
