Victoria Launches Enhanced Freight Plan

Victoria Launches Enhanced Freight Plan

Victoria has announced a new Freight Plan that outlines key actions aimed at cutting emissions, boosting innovation and improving efficiency across Victoria’s freight network.

This plan establishes a clear direction for decarbonising the freight sector, improving infrastructure, and supporting smarter, more sustainable freight movements across the state.

A key initiative is the introduction of an $8 million Freight Sector Innovation Fund, which aims to help small and medium heavy vehicle operators trial and transition to low-emission technologies.

Victoria is also seeking to become the first Australian state to endorse the global Memorandum of Understanding for decarbonising freight transport, which would give it access to international data and expertise.

With the Port of Melbourne handling over one-third of the nation’s container trade and a workforce of 260,000 people across freight and logistics, the plan aims to secure Victoria’s long-term competitive advantage while supporting a more sustainable supply chain.
