EU Approves Funding For French Wine Export Scheme

EU Approves Funding For French Wine Export Scheme

A French scheme, which aims to facilitate the export of wines and spirits to the United States, has been approved by the EU for funding up to $5.6 billion.

This scheme utilises a re-insurance mechanism, which provides short-term guarantees to companies that provide insurance against commercial and political risk.

This scheme will be active from 8th May – 8th July and helps exporters of wine and spirits export inventory to the U.S. before new tariffs take effect. As the U.S. is the largest market for French wine and spirits, worth 3.8 billion euros in 2024, this scheme will assist France’s wine exporters to fulfill the buy-up anticipated from U.S. buyers during the tariff pause.
